Go Ahead Eagles beat Ajax 2-1

At the start of the Eredivisie match, Ajax was undefeated in their previous 26 away league games. We expected Ajax to have a slight 1-2 lead at the end of the Eredivisie match. On the other hand, Ajax was left with 57 points to stay in 1st place.

You’ll find that the Go Ahead Eagles and Ajax usually finish the division game in the first and second half. In the Dutch Eredivisie, the two teams had played against each other eight times before, of which the Eagles had won 1, Ajax had won 6, and the two teams had drawn 1.

The last league match against these teams took place on Match Day 12 of the Eredivisie match on 11/07/2021, which ended with Ajax 0-0 against the Go Ahead Eagles. Ajax drew 2:2 in the Champions League match against Benfica in the previous game. In the last game, Ajax had 59% possession and 11 shots on goal, including eight on goal. Ajax averages 2.96 goals per game away and concedes 0.36.

Ajax lost 2-1 to the Go Ahead Eagles and was ahead of PSV, who had beaten Sparta Rotterdam 1-2 earlier in the day. In the final round, the Go Ahead Eagles barely got through from their half. Still, Ajax could no longer come up with anything in the often crowded penalty area and take the doctoral candidate’s second defeat in this century.

Erik ten Hag led Ajax to first place in the Eredivisie standings with 57 points. The Go Ahead Eagles drew Eredivisie champions Ajax 0-0 when the teams last met in Amsterdam in November, and the Go Ahead Eagles were once again able to keep the score at home. The Go Ahead Eagles are one of five teams to score points against the Eredivisie champion Ajax this season, although the chances of the Go Ahead Eagles changing the odds looked slim, and many were confident that Ajax would have an easy game against them.

Especially in the second half of the sixties, Go Ahead did well in the Eredivisie. Between World War, I and World War II, Go Ahead was the most successful team in the Eastern League. After nearly two decades in the second tier of the Eerste Divisie, Go Ahead won promotion to the 2013-14 Eredivisie at the end of the 2012-13 season, winning the promotion play-off. Go Ahead Eagles have also qualified for European football.

This Ajax loss means the gap is reduced at the top of the table. Ajax had a lead of five points over the second-placed PSV. Ajax lost to Go Ahead, and PSV won against Sparta Rotterdam, thanks to a second-half comeback and winning the game 2-1. The first spot is within reach now, and the top two teams will have an intense battle for the top spot.
