As the Eredivisie has reached the winter break point of the season, thus meaning we are halfway through the 21/22 campaign, one Dutch football-focused site has decided to take a look at the potential team of the season so far.
Writing for Football-Oranje.com, Michael Statham has managed to create a list of his top players this season, having filled out a starting XI and a substitute bench with an array of talent that has been plying their trade in the Dutch top flight.
Indeed, the Eredivisie has always proven to be a popular sports league to watch and wager on, with many accessing bet2you as their preferred choice due to the number of markets and odds they receive.
When taking a look at the team that Statham has decided to opt for, it is clear that there are a number of players from the same team that feature, although this is perhaps not a surprise given their standing in the league at the moment.
The league is currently in a three-horse race at the moment, with PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord only separated by a couple of points each from each other but adrift of Vitesse and the chasing pack.
The goalkeeper, Lars Unnerstall, is the only player from FC Twente to have been selected but the German has proven to be an excellent shot-stopper for the club this season and one of the major reasons why his team are competing for a place in European football next season.
Feyenoord’s Marcus Pedersen and Vitesse’s Max Wittek are joined by Ajax duo Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez as centre-backs, with Ajax’s defence having only conceded a total of four goals in the 18 games played so far.
PSV’s Ibrahim Sangaré and Sondre Tronstad of Vitesse are the pair to have been picked as central midfield players whilst Ajax’s Dusan Tadic and AZ Alkmaar’s Jesper Karlsson have been selected as wingers. Indeed, Tadic’s inclusion is hardly a surprise when he is thought to have broken Lionel Messi’s record of providing the most number of assists in a calendar year (debates run wild, though).
The attacking midfielder selected is Guus Til of Feyenoord and he sits behind his team-mate Bryan Linssen in the side who takes the spot of striker. Statham did state that it was a hard choice, though, with players such as Sébastien Haller, Vangelis Pavlidis, and Lois Openda all available to choose from, as well.
Lastly, the Feyenoord boss, Arne Slot has been picked as the manager of the Eredivisie Team of the Season so far as he has managed to turn around the fortunes of the team brilliantly.
The substitutes chosen include the following: Remko Pasveer (Ajax; goalkeeper), Noussair Mazraoui (Ajax; right-back), Gernot Trauner (Feyenoord; centre-back), Daley Blind (Ajax; left-back), Edson Alvarez (Ajax; midfield), Orkun Kokcu (Feyenoord; midfielder), Luis Sinisterra (Feyenoord; winger), Cody Gakpo (PSV; winger), Issa Kallon (Cambuur; winger), Sébastien Haller (Ajax; striker), Lois Openda (Vitesse; striker).
