Eredivisie 21/22 Gameweek 1 is over

The return of the Eredivisie could not have come sooner for Dutch football fans.

Many will have witnessed their national side crash out of the UEFA 2020 European Championships in disappointing fashion to the Czech Republic, whilst some will have been devastated by some of the transfer moves that took place over the course of the summer.

For instance, Denzel Dumfries has only just joined Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven in what would have been a big blow to their side, whilst many Feyenoord fans were left furious with their former skipper’s decision to join one of their arch-rivals as Steven Berghuis opted to make a switch to Amerstdam and join Ajax.

Nonetheless, whilst there will have been some controversial moves over the last few weeks and months, many will have been pleased that they had at least managed to enjoy a brilliant gambling experience with kuwait-casino.net to help them pass the time.

However, as mentioned, the Eredivisie is back and not without a bang, a shock and a surprise along the way!

Here are the results from matchday 1:

  • Go Ahead Eagles 0-1 Heerenveen
  • RKC Waalwijk 1-0 AZ Alkmaar
  • Heracles 0-2 PSV
  • Fortuna Sittard 2-1 FC Twente
  • Ajax 5-0 NEC
  • Cambuur 1-2 Groningen
  • Utrecht 4-0 Sparta
  • PEC Zwolle 0-1 Vitesse
  • Willem II 0-4 Feyenoord

With UEFA Europa League qualification set to be a huge challenge for AZ Alkmaar in the coming weeks with a two-legged affair against Celtic coming up, their defeat to RKC Waalwijk will have come as a huge shock and a big setback.

The visitors dominated the game in terms of stats and possession (72% to 28%) but they just could not beat the ‘keeper and put the ball in the back of the net.

PSV and Feyenoord both got off to strong wins despite having lost key players this summer, although Ajax continue to show why they are typically at the top of the table each and every single Eredivisie season.

In fact, Ajax managed to score all five of their goals in the first half through Sebastien Haller, Noussair Mazraoui, a Bart van Rooij own-goal and a brace from Dusan Tadic all before 40 minutes were played at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Matchday 2 will take place over the upcoming weekend and will some potentially close fixtures take place, whilst Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV will each be expecting to make it two wins from two, especially as each of their opponents lost their first fixture of the season (Twente, Go Ahead Eagles and Cambuur respectively).
